Jo’s Foggy Weather Blog

For every Foggy day in August we will have a winter storm the following winter.

August 2016 – 15 days had Fog.
August 2017 – 19 days had Fog.
August 2018 – 27 days had Fog. (We are in trouble)

2016-17 Winter Season Analysis:  If you count the “days” of snow below instead of the “Storms”, we are only one-off.  Check the chart below.

2017-18 Winter Season Analysis:  Take a look at the data below and you will see we had a perfect match.  Nineteen days of Fog in August 2017 and Nineteen days of “Snow Events” during the winter of 2017-18.

2018-19 Winter Storm Analysis: By eliminating the .5’s the count is spot on.

2019-20 Winter Storm Analysis:  Record keeping was spotty but storm counts did not live up to August’s Fog.

For 2017 we have added a “Scale of Fog”. We will see what the Winter Brings.

  • 0 = No Fog
  • 1 = Wispy Fog
  • 2 = Moderate Fog
  • 3 = Dense Fog
